Hello and good morning, afternoon, and evening wherever you are.
Another International Week of Happiness at Work is behind us.
Hundreds of companies, thousands of humans, one shared question: what makes work worth doing?
For a week, the world listened, laughed, and learned together.
And then Monday came back.
So… what happens now?
The Risk of the Fade
Every September (or this time, October) we promise to make work a little more human.
And every year, by mid-month, we quietly slide back into “later.”
Meetings fill up. Good intentions turn into calendar invites titled “follow-up.”
But here’s the truth: happiness at work isn’t an event.
It’s infrastructure.
And it either keeps working - or it rusts.
Gallup’s latest numbers confirm what we already feel: global engagement is slipping again.
Only one in five people say they’re thriving at work. The rest are managing, coping, or counting down.
That’s the Great Detachment - and it’s growing.
So no, we can’t wait until September 2026 to pick this up again.

What’s Emerging
If 2025 taught us anything, it’s this: happiness isn’t a perk. It’s a practice.
🔹 Flexibility is trust, not policy.
Employees don’t need beanbags, they need control.
Where, when, and how they work is the new currency of respect.
🔹 Life fuels work.
New research shows life satisfaction predicts job satisfaction - not the other way around.
So maybe “work-life balance” was always backwards.
🔹 Quiet thriving is real.
People aren’t waiting for HR to fix culture. They’re tweaking their roles, creating micro-joy, carving out meaning one small choice at a time.
🔹 Belonging beats branding.
Psychological safety, inclusion, and being heard are still the strongest happiness drivers.
If people don’t feel seen, no mural or mission statement will save you.
🔹 The mid-career dip is brutal.
Between years 2–5, satisfaction drops off a cliff. Let’s stop losing good people just as they’re hitting their stride.
What’s Next: Happiness at Work 2026
Next year’s International Week of Happiness at Work will move to September 21 – 25, 2026 - and we’re not waiting until then to start the conversation.
Between now and then, we’ll be building a 12-month journey:
micro-themes, experiments, and shared stories under one idea:
Small acts. Big shifts.
Every month we’ll highlight a focus - from autonomy and belonging to energy and purpose - drawn from our Living Answers Manifesto.
You’ll get one newsletter, one challenge, and one real story from the field.
Because happiness at work doesn’t need a stage, a hashtag, or a week.
It needs practice.
To soon for a countdown? No never!
What You Can Do (Before Lunch)
Ask your team one question: “What would make next Monday better?”
Cancel one useless meeting and give the hour back.
Notice something someone does right - and tell them.
Try one “micro-joy”: a walk, a laugh, a deep breath that isn’t on a timer.
Write it down. Share it. That’s how culture spreads.

A Final Thought
The International Week of Happiness at Work 2025 is over, but the work isn’t.
We’re not selling happiness - we’re rebuilding the conditions for it.
Let’s make 2026 the year happiness stops being a campaign and starts being a competency.
See you in September 2026 - but stay human until then.
